The Shabbat dinner and service that we hosted with the Pacifica Institute – a Turkish Muslim group – was a great success. As they so generously did last year, they cooked a vegetarian Turkish Shabbat dinner for all of us and it created wonderful camaraderie among everyone in attendance. There were 200 people at dinner and 400 people at the Shabbat service that followed when our speaker was New York Times journalist, Roger Cohen, who spoke on “The Arab Spring: Israel In A Transformed Middle East.” Jewish and Muslim prayers were recited both at the dinner and the service and, while Roger Cohen was speaking, both the Jewish and Muslim children shared a children’s Oneg Shabbat with stories, songs and other activities. We’re looking forward to our next event together in the not too distant future.
